As Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Day, Spotify joins in the celebrations with its ‘The Sounds of Nigeria’ campaign. The campaign aimed to pay homage to the country’s rich musical heritage, which has long been a unifying force and source of pride for Nigerians.
So, from Sunday, September 29 to Thursday, October 3, music lovers could find a musical destination celebrating Nigeria’s independence within Spotify’s Afro and Afrobeats hub.
This selection of destinations included Good Old Naija Days, Naija New School, Naija No Day Carry Last and The Sound of Nigeria. Good Old Naija Days took listeners on a nostalgic journey through the classic hits that have defined Nigerian music over the years. This destination showcased timeless songs from legendary artists who have shaped the country’s musical landscape.
Naija No Day Carrie Lust celebrated the resilience and spirit of Nigerian music. The destination featured songs that inspired and uplifted the nation, reminding us of the power of music to unite and persevere. Naija New School Naija spotlighted the hottest new artists and cutting-edge sounds in Nigerian music, highlighting the artists and tracks that are pushing the industry forward. Meanwhile, Sounds of Nigeria focused on Nigeria’s rich and diverse musical heritage and celebrated the stories that shape our identity.

To further enhance the campaign experience, Spotify has teamed up with renowned content creator and DJ Justin UG to take over the internet’s famous playlists. Known for his creative content and love for Nigerian music and culture, Justin UG introduces new sounds and perspectives to a wider audience.
In addition to selected destinations and takeovers, Spotify is also introducing two new playlists: Naija Gospel Throwback and Nigerian Highlife. Naija Gospel Throwback celebrates the history of Nigerian gospel music with classic anthems, while Nigeria Highlife showcases the vibrant and upbeat genre with infectious rhythms and catchy melodies.
