Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has clashed with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, over his declaration that the ruling party aims to politically homogenize the South-West by further excluding the Peoples Democratic Party. Oyo and Osun states.
Naija News reports that after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared APC candidate Lucky Ayedatiwa the winner in Saturday’s Ondo State governorship election, Mr Ganduje said the party’s next target is geopolitics in the South-West. He boasted that he was in the academic zone.
The national chairman said the party would do everything possible to win the state.
Ganduje said: “Our next target is the South-West geopolitical zone. You know, we are good at achieving our goals and this is Osun and Oyo states. We will do everything possible to bring them into the fold in order to maintain political homogeneity.”
However, in a conversation with Punch, the Oyo governor through his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, said the government and Oyo PDP have no intention of handing over the state to the APC.
Olanrewaju said the Oyo governor echoed the statement of the Oyo PDP Acting Publicity Secretary, Mr. Michael Ogunshina, who accused Mr. Ganduje over the takeover scheme.
In a statement, Ogunshina said it was unfathomable for the APC to think that the people of Oyo State would abandon the “oasis of peace, ease and good governance” under the Makinde administration due to “devastation, pain, sorrow and tears”. He said no.
“Oyo PDP said that rather than talk about state capture, it expected the APC-led federal government to focus on how to alleviate the burden imposed on Nigerians by its allegedly misguided policies.
“It is unfortunate that instead of relieving the burden of the people, capture of the state and kidnapping of the fate of the people is occupying the minds of the APC and its leadership. So what is the difference between the activities of the APC and those of forest bandits? Is there one?
“Our people are tired of political parties and people who only call themselves progressive. Ganduje and his cronies are conspiring against God and the people to extend the APC’s misery to Oyo State. We reject the curse from Ganduje and his APC. Our God who hates the wicked also rejects them.
“Our state was an oasis of peace, security and good governance in the midst of the ruins wreaked across the country by the APC. We will not surrender our freedom to predators. we don’t do that.
“Perhaps we should let the APC people know that no sensible person in Oyo State wants their people to suffer more than they are currently suffering due to APC misgovernment.
“Any ruling party with a conscience would be working hard by now to repair the damage done to our economy and the public finances of our country. However, the APC cannot give what it does not have. , has no concern for the plight of the people. Its politics is solely about seizing power, seizing the state and depriving the people of their joy,” Oyo PDP said.
