At the 2023 African Union-European Union Summit, leaders from both continents strengthened their focus on space as a key area of ​​cooperation. Africa and Europe have cooperated for more than 20 years in Earth observation under the GMES and Africa programmes, supporting information services, data access and training, and through satellite data exchange agreements. Since 2010, Africa and Europe have been working with ASECNA to implement the EGNOS-based African Satellite Extension System (ANGA). The SatNav Joint Program Office program aims to extend the benefits of ANGA across sub-Saharan Africa.
