Labor’s National Legal Adviser Kehinde Edun has revealed that contrary to speculation, Julius Habre has not been removed as the party’s national chairman.
Mr. Edun explained that the recent judgment by the Abuja Court of Appeal did not reinstate Mr. Habre but only confirmed his status as the legitimate chairman.
Naija News recalls that the Court of Appeal last week, through a three-member panel led by Justice Hamma Baruka, upheld the November 13, 2024 judgment confirming Mr. Abre as the party’s national chairman. .
The court emphasized that its decision remains valid and has not been overturned by any other judicial body.
Justice Baruka stressed that the appeal filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the Management Committee and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not address the Labor Party leadership contest, which the court deemed unfair. .
Further, the court ruled that the October 8, 2024 judgment of the Federal High Court, Justice Emeka Nwite, is null and void as it was handed down without proper jurisdiction.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Mr Edun reiterated: It meant that his position was affirmed in court. ”
The LP’s legal advisor acknowledged that the party’s crisis was damaging the party and assured party members that the leadership was working to resolve the crisis.
“We know there is a crisis within the party because of its attitude, but we are working towards reconciliation to get everyone to come, and there is still time for that.
“We have never picked a fight with anyone. We did not file a case against Nenadi, we filed a case against INEC and the court resolved the dispute and they wanted to join. “We have never sued any party member,” Edun added.
