Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has opined that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, can only set fire to states that the governor does not fully control.
Naija News reported that Wike spoke a few weeks ago at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, during the party’s state congress, urging the party’s governors not to get involved in political affairs in the state. I remember him warning me.
He threatened to set the state on fire and create a political crisis against the PDP governor who is demanding that Rivers State Governor Siminalai Hubara take over the party structure in the state.
But Fayose said on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics that such fires will not burn in states where the governor has nothing to hide.
According to him, there is nothing to fear once the governor takes control of the state.
He said: “As a sitting governor, when I was governor of Ekiti State, I had nothing to hide.
“If a governor or former governor says I’m going to set my state on fire, that means either I’m not strong in the country or I’m losing control of my state. Then I have to be very afraid.” Yes, I speak my mind and don’t hide it.
“You see where I stand. The moment you know your condition, you have nothing to fear. But the moment you lose control of your condition, there’s clearly a lot to face.”
