Anthony Adefuye, a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Committee (GAC), has expressed support for the embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
Naija News reports that Obasa spoke for the first time on Saturday since the impeachment and condemned his removal by the lawmaker.
Obasa was removed by 32 out of 40 MPs on January 13 following allegations of fraud and financial misappropriation.
He was later replaced by former deputy speaker Mojisola Meranda.
Obasa, who was in the United States of America when he was abducted, spoke to a large crowd of supporters at Speaker’s Lodge, 47, Gura Ikeja, Lagos.
The former speaker denied allegations of corruption leveled against him by MPs.
He said: “I believe in removal. There is no impeachment in Congress. Perhaps there is a mistake from them. You can only remove the speaker. Also, before removing, follow the rules of the Constitution. I’m not afraid of being removed, what else am I looking for?”
Reacting to Obasa’s claims, Adefuye who spoke to Sunday Punch over the phone said, “What he is saying is that he was removed illegally and the procedure was flawed and I agreed with him.” said.
However, the Chairman of the GAC, Tajudeen Olusi, noted that it is his duty to ensure that the party functions effectively in the state while reducing the response.
He said, “I think we should address the issue head on.Obasa said his removal was illegal. If that statement is correct, then you must come to me.” I think the illegality has to do with the law. I’m not a lawyer. That obviously doesn’t concern me.
“The man you quoted should be asked what aspect of the law he is. I am a senior citizen of this country, especially Lagos State. My responsibility is to ensure peace, harmony and cooperation in my party. is.”
The Publicity Secretary of APC in the state, Seye Oladejo, said the party would not interfere in the internal affairs of the House of Representatives.
“The election of the leadership of the House of Representatives remains strictly an internal matter. The party is not a part of it and we have no intention (to interfere),” Oladejo said.
