The National Publicity Secretary of the Labor Party (LP), Obiora Ifor, has declared that there are no factions within the party.
This is as he described the Nenadi Usman-led management committee as nothing more than “some members who come to play games and claim things that are not true.”
Speaking in an interview with Punch, Ifor said the law does not recognize any faction within the Labor Party.
However, he assured that the party is working to ensure that all disgruntled members are reconciled and the party provides a strong position for the 2027 elections.
“As I said earlier, we’re not going to let the air get going until we all come back and vote together. There were no cliques to begin with. What we experienced was that some members was to come and claim things that are not true.
“From a legal point of view, there have never been factions and parties have never been united. But when people make a point, if they don’t stand firm, they may be blown away by the wind. That’s exactly what happened.
“The Labor Party has never faced what you would call factions.
“The so-called factions are created by the media. The moment our former chairman Abdul Salam (peace be upon his soul) passed away, a successor was born and it remained until we held a convention as per the provisions of the law. It continued.
“This convention produced a series of new leaders. So there were no cliques anywhere. That’s my view,” he said.
Mr Ifor claimed that all reports of factionalization within the Labor Party were a creation of the media, but earlier in the interview he said the party was working to bring all members back into the same group.
“For us in the party, we just took this as something that came to stabilize the party. As I said earlier, we want to make sure that everyone who is supposed to be with us is back. “We can’t pump air until then. Celebrations can take place after we win a major election,” he said.
