The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has condemned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s announcement of a minimum wage of N73,000 for civil servants in the state.
PDP said in a statement on Monday that the governor approved the minimum wage as a Greek gift to workers in order to gain votes in the state’s upcoming gubernatorial election.
Naija News recalls that Mr Ayedatiwa announced the new minimum wage at the campaign flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo West Local Government Area on Saturday.
However, the PDP in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity of its campaign organization, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, questioned why the governor announced the wages in a political program.
The PDP appealed to Ondo residents not to be fooled by the announcement as a gift from Greece.
The statement read: “It is disrespectful to announce a new minimum wage for dignified and well-mannered Ondo State employees from the election podium, thereby threatening the welfare of state employees in order to gain unfair political advantage in the upcoming gubernatorial election. “It would politicize welfare.” The election is scheduled for November 16th.
“Popular civil servants in Ondo State consider this latest promise of a new minimum wage hike as a gift from Greece to trick unsuspecting Ondo State civil servants into voting for him. There is.
“The timing is not well thought out and no one is going to take him seriously because he has fooled public servants once and they won’t let him fool them again. Once bitten, twice embarrassed. I’ll get it!”
However, the governor refuted the PDP’s submission.
Reacting to the opposition statement, Mr Ayedatiwa warned the PDP against any attempt to use workers’ welfare benefits to score easy political points.
The governor, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on New Media, Sunday Abire, said workers in the state were entitled to the new minimum wage and the PDP should restore itself.
“Aiyedatiwa never says anything that is not in his mind. He did not announce ₦73,000 as the minimum wage to score political points. It is a great shame to think that the PDP does not know.
“Workers in Ondo State are determined to support the party as well as a governor who treats them well with payment of regular salaries and other allowances. The moment the PDP announced a strong minimum wage that it has not earned, the people took note of the anger of the PDP.The workers of Ondo State, which the PDP is trying to suffocate, will be lucky under the leadership of Governor Ayedatiwa even after 2025. May it continue to be.
“Ondo State workers have already started calculating their salaries and are asking the PDP to recover on its own. This is a year of increase for workers in Ondo State. There is no debate. Governor Aiyedatiwa is on board. Prosperity stays here,” the statement said.
