Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of treason for establishing a shadow government in the state.
Mr. Otti promised to take strict legal action against the opposition in accordance with the law.
Naija News reports that Mr. Otti stated this yesterday during an important meeting with trade union leaders in the state.
The governor expressed concern over the development, characterizing the initiative as baseless and showing a lack of understanding of Nigeria’s political framework.
It is noteworthy that the PDP in Abia State recently declared the creation of a shadow government and appointed a chairman and shadow commissioners, claiming that the initiative is aimed at holding the current administration to account.
Mr. Otti stressed that the concept of shadow government has no place in the country’s presidential democracy and urged the state’s Attorney-General and Attorney-General, Ikechukwu Uwanna, to take firm action within legal limits on the issue. instructed them to take the appropriate action.
“In presidential democracies, there is no such thing as a shadow government. The problem people have is ignorance and refusal to be educated. Shadow governments only exist in parliamentary democracies .
“What they have set up is essentially a government in exile, which is treason because it is not recognized by law,” he said.
