The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, has invited Fisayo Soyombo, founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), to a “roundtable discussion” on “Nigeria’s Correctional Services Reform”.
On October 5, Soyombo appeared on the Arise TV show “Perspectives” and commented on the corruption in the country’s prisons.
In 2019, former The Cable editor Soyombo spent eight days undercover in Ikoyi Prison.
Soyombo was arrested for faking the crime, taken into police custody, arraigned in court and eventually detained at Ikoyi Prison in Lagos.
In prisons, investigative journalists had a front row seat to corruption by prison officials.
After his release, he wrote a three-part report about his experiences.
In a post on X-Page on Saturday, Tunji Ojo said: “Following the recent revelations on national television, it is necessary to invite Fisayo Soyombo of FIJ, a renowned investigative journalist, to a roundtable discussion. I think so.”
“I believe his expertise will be invaluable in shaping the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s correctional services,” the minister added.
“We look forward to this conversation as we identify areas for improvement while seeking ways to create positive changes that will help navigate the complexities of our services.”
