Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “dead political party” following the decision to expel Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State. ”
Mr Adeyanju criticized the party's move and questioned why Mr Ugochinyere was expelled while Mr Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister and vocal critic of the PDP leadership, remained a member of the party. I was skeptical.
Ugochinyere, who is also the spokesperson of the United Coalition of Political Parties (CUPP), was expelled by the PDP on suspicion of gross indiscipline, insubordination and anti-party activities.
His expulsion was stated in a letter dated December 5, 2024 from the Party Ideato local government area branch.
The letter was signed by LGA Chairman Hong Jeong. Mr. Thank God Okeke and Chief Justice Onyebuchi Ume said Mr. Ugochinyere’s expulsion was in accordance with the recommendations of the disciplinary committee report dated November 27, 2024.
The Commission cited Article 57(1-4) of the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended) to justify this decision.
However, Mr. Adeyanju posted on I wrote it.
“Jokes are written every day. PDP is a dead political party waiting for its funeral.”
