Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Shibiga began a tour of African countries and Oman on Wednesday to drum up support for Kiev’s plan to end its bitter war with Russia.
The visits to Oman, Angola, Egypt and South Africa came as Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced a “victory plan” and called for immediate NATO membership.
Sibiga’s visit, which begins on Wednesday and ends on Monday, will “promote a peace official, develop political dialogue, strengthen humanitarian and energy assistance to Ukraine, and develop trade and economic cooperation,” the foreign ministry said.
In June, about 80 countries endorsed Zelensky’s 10-point peace formula, saying Ukraine’s territorial integrity should be respected and calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
Kiev is calling on more countries to support this agenda.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Kiev has strengthened diplomatic ties with Moscow’s traditional allies in Africa and Asia.
Sibiga’s departure coincides with a visit to Russia by about 20 world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the BRICS Center in the central city of Kazan. Attend the group’s three-day meeting. .
