Union Church of Pocantico Hills, a nondenominational faith community, is pleased to welcome Katia Kravitz as its new music director. Kravitz’s first Sunday at Union Church was Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 10 a.m. ET.
Kravitz holds a doctorate in organ performance from Rutgers University and is an accomplished pianist, organist, and choir director with extensive experience as both a teacher and performer.
Kravitz has been the assistant music director at Temple Beth Abraham in Tarrytown for 11 years and will continue in that role. Pastor Patricia Callahan said this position works very well with our own needs at Union Church, adding, “We are excited to share this special relationship with our neighbors.” .
Kravitz bio:
A pianist, organist, and chamber music clinician, Kravitz is currently based in New York City. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician with prominent musicians in Israel, Europe, and North America. Born in Moscow, she began studying piano at the age of six. At the age of 12, she immigrated to Israel with her family and attended Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts.
Kravitz has been recognized for his artistry both as a soloist and as a chamber musician in the United States, Europe, and Israel. Her diverse repertoire ranges from early Baroque to contemporary works, performed on both piano and organ.
As a freelance collaborative musician, Kravitz has performed at prestigious venues such as the Goethe Institute and Arlington Street Church in Boston, Massachusetts. National Arts Club and St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York City. Nuevo Laredo Cultural Center, Mexico. St. Stephen’s Church in Wilmington, Delaware. and the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, New Jersey.
Kravitz holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in organ performance from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She holds a master’s degree in piano performance from the Buchman Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University. He earned a graduate performance degree in piano performance from the Boston Conservatory of Music at Berklee, where he also served as vocal accompanist and collaborative pianist.
A full-time educator and chamber music coach, Kravitz is a member of the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Chamber Music Program (CMP) faculty. She is also on the faculty of the Browning School and Riverdale Country School, and actively operates a private studio for piano and organ instruction.
Kravitz is a member of the American Society of Organists. From 2023 to 2024, she served as Interim Music Director at Christ Church, New Brunswick, New Jersey, and since 2013, has served as Assistant Music Director at Temple Beth Abraham in Tarrytown, New York.
