Uptown Music Collective recently announced all major shows for its upcoming season, which will run from November to April. There will be four opportunities to see the students at the Community Arts Center, located at 220 West Fourth St., and will offer a little something for all music lovers and UMC fans, according to a press release.
Since 2000, UMC students have performed in a variety of environments through three types of performances. Student Showcase, an in-house performance designed for young students. Community Performance Group, a public performance that serves as a proving ground for intermediate students. And the Major Performance Group is aimed at the school’s most accomplished players who are ready to take on much larger venues.
“Major Performance Groups are important catalysts for student growth,” said Dave Brumbaugh, UMC Founder and Executive Director. “The goal of performing in a community arts center as part of a special performance group is what drives many of our students to work hard, push their limits, and succeed. It is also a place where you form strong connections and deep relationships with many people.
“Our major performance is a true win-win,” Brumbaugh added. “Students experience the thrill of performing in professional productions in front of large audiences in professional venues, the community enjoys high-level performances from talented young people next door, and these events are a part of our non-profit organization. It helps fund and sustain the school and ensures its continued success.”
To kick off the two-night run on November 8th and 9th, Uptown Music Collective will hit the track with a show titled “Midnight Train to Memphis: The Music of Modern Country.” The show features talented young musicians performing hits by Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Morgan Wallen and more.
“This unforgettable night of down-home music celebrates modern country stars and their most popular songs,” the press release states.
The Jan. 25 “The Music That Made the Movie: The Soundtrack That Rock!” show features performers from “Top Gun,” “Pretty in Pink,” “The Bodyguard,” and “Back to the Rock!” Covers songs from iconic movies such as “The Future,” “Young Guns,” “Dirty Dancing,” “Footloose,” and “Armageddon.” And so on.
“This one-night-only People’s Choice fundraising show will be a night filled with the beauty, passion, and energy that are the hallmarks of the talented students of the Collective,” according to a press release.
UMC’s third season performance, “Wonderwall: The Ultimate ’90s Mix,” scheduled for March 15th, will feature hits by Oasis, Foo Fighters, Sheryl Crow, Green Day, Natalie Merchant, Jewel, and Counting. , celebrating the diverse sounds of 90s pop-rock music. crow etc.
“This musical road trip celebrates the seminal songs that defined one of the most colorful eras in rock history,” the release states.
In their fourth and final appearance of the performance season, the collective will perform over two nights, April 25th and 26th, in “’80s Arena Rock: Power Ballads & Rock Anthems,” featuring some of the most important arena rock bands of the 1980s. Featuring the music of rock heavyweights AC/DC and Aerosmith alongside ’80s icons Bon Jovi, Journey, Heart and Def Leppard, the show is an unforgettable mix of anthemic hits and power ballads. UMC senior Izzy Butters is most excited about the Modern Country Show.
“This is my first show of my senior year and I’m honored to be able to direct it,” Butters said. “I’ve been pulling for a country show for years and I’m glad it’s finally happening. I’ve been working on an idea that I’ve been thinking about for this show and I’m going to execute it with one of my best friends, Leanne Gephardt. I’m really excited to do it. It’s going to be a great show.”
