The Federal Government has announced that it has begun preparations to evacuate Nigerians in Lebanon to Nigeria.
Anbu. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Eche Abu-Obe disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Friday in view of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
“In addition to the deteriorating situation in Lebanon over the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the government has begun preparations to evacuate Nigerians living in Lebanon to Nigeria.
“The Nigerian government is taking steps to ensure the protection and security of Nigerian citizens in the country.
“The Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon has issued regular advisories containing safety instructions to the Nigerian community, and in August advised our compatriots to strongly consider voluntary evacuation while commercial flights remain an option.
“Nigerians from southern Lebanon are also evacuating to Beirut and other safe areas, working with Nigerian community leaders.”
The spokesperson said it has become pertinent to note that so far no Nigerian life has been lost since the conflict began.
“The Ministry would like to reassure Nigerians that the Federal Government, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, remains committed to the protection and security of Nigerians.
“The government is preparing to evacuate them to their hometowns,” Abu Obeh said.
