Chief of Defense Staff Christopher Musa appealed for the public’s support in the fight against rebels and armed groups.
Musa said in a video message on Friday that Nigeria faces the challenge of asymmetric warfare involving non-state actors in different regions.
He added that the military is committed to restoring peace and security, but success requires a “whole-of-society approach.”
“We have a history of defending Africa, we have participated in peacekeeping operations in Europe, and we have significant experience,” he said.
“Nigeria, as part of the international community, is currently dealing with asymmetric warfare in which non-state actors operate in different parts of the country.
“We have been facing Boko Haram and ISWAP problems in the North East for 15 years, banditry in the North West, pipeline vandalism and maritime piracy in the South South, and IPOB in the South East. We are pushing forward.
“Despite all this, the military remains resolute. We are a professional force and continue to strengthen and intensify training, which is vital to the military.
“We also focus on unit welfare, as it is essential for optimal performance.
“Our efforts aim to restore peace so that children can return to school, markets can thrive and the Nigerian economy can recover, especially in the South-South and other regions. We guarantee this.
“All we ask of Nigerians is continued faith in our country and support for our government, military and other security agencies.
“We can’t do it alone. We all need to participate. This is a whole-of-society approach to terrorists, robbers and criminals.
“The President has given us the mandate to restore complete peace and security in the country and we are working towards it. Together, we will succeed. I assure you that .”
