The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused Lagos State of trying to dominate other regions, especially Kano, because of the support it receives from the central government.
Mr Kwankwaso expressed concern over President Bola Tinubu’s government’s prioritization of Lagos State over other states of the federation.
He alleged that Lagos State was interfering in Kano’s internal affairs, including the selection of its chieftain.
Mr. Kwankwaso said this in a speech at the convocation ceremony of Skyline University in Kano on Sunday.
He said: “Today we can clearly see the great efforts of the Lagos Axis to colonize this part of the country.Lagos did not even allow us to choose our chieftains. , they want to impose their Emir on Kano.
He added: “Lagos today feels that they are Nigeria and are only interfering in the affairs of other states. We will not tolerate such acts here in Kano.”
Kwankwaso’s comments reflect deep concerns over alleged regional imbalances in governance and traditional institutions, particularly under the current Tinubu government.
Some people believe that President Tinubu’s administration is giving more attention to Lagos State, with multi-trillion naira projects being awarded to the state to the detriment of other states.
