The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has announced that it will not participate in the local government elections scheduled for November 2, 2024.
The decision was announced at a joint meeting of party state executives and local government chairmen in Umuahia.
The party cited lack of formal communication from the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) as the main reason for its withdrawal.
The APC’s Assistant Secretary of State and Acting Publicity Secretary, Engr. Sterling Uluakpa, explained that the party cannot rely on information disseminated through social media platforms regarding elections.
He stressed the importance of ABSIEC using appropriate official channels to communicate important updates and details to the party.
APC stressed the need for transparency and inclusiveness in the electoral process to maintain credibility among all stakeholders.
“The All Progressives Congress, Nigeria’s ruling party and Africa’s largest political party, will not tolerate any form of disrespect or disrespect from ABSIEC,” Uluakpa said.
“ABSIEC must follow due process in its operations, ensure inclusiveness and provide a level playing field for all political parties in order to gain the trust of political parties and the public.”
