Veteran Nollywood actress and director Binta Ayo Mogaji has urged women over the age of 35 who desire motherhood to get pregnant outside of marriage.
In a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, the 60-year-old actress encouraged unmarried women over the age of 35 to consider having a child out of wedlock.
“What I’m saying is, if you’re over 35 and don’t have a husband, there’s someone in your life who is with you but isn’t ready for marriage, and that person wants kids. . Even if you can’t accept responsibility for the child, let him do it,” she advised.
Drawing on her own experiences, the celebrated filmmaker explains how she faced societal pressures before ultimately marrying UK-based physiotherapist Victor Odulay in 2006. , talked about how he had overcome it.
She added that she endured 13 years of abuse before her marriage ended.
Mogaji stressed that women should prioritize motherhood over society’s expectations. She also encouraged women to consider adoption if they cannot find a partner.
“When she’s 35 and looking for a husband, they’ll say she’s too old to wash clothes for her mother-in-law or be managed,” the actress says. spoke.
“They would advise a man to find a young woman who will listen to him. Even if he is lucky enough to get married at that age, by the time the children grow up she will already be an old man. Some people are already grandmothers at the age of 45 or 50.
“Your friend is a grandma and she says she’s still looking for a husband. When will she find a husband and become a grandma?”
“So my advice is, if God blesses you with someone who likes you so much that you can have a baby together, then go ahead and do it.
“If you find someone you like, try getting pregnant as long as you want a child and can take care of the child. But if you want a child and can’t find a man who will get you pregnant, consider adoption.” .”
