Ambassador Aminu Wali, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) board, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is behind the escalating infighting within the opposition party.
Naija News reported that Wali made this remark during a recent debate with the BBC.
The founding member of the PDP alleged that the APC was deliberately stirring up discord among opposition parties to destabilize the country’s political environment.
The veteran politician highlighted the recent conflicts within the PDP and explained the challenges faced by the executive committee in achieving reconciliation before finally resolving the issue.
He insinuated that although the APC may not openly admit its role, it is deliberately exacerbating insecurity to weaken opposition unity.
“There is no doubt that the APC is involved in the conflicts that are occurring within some political parties in Nigeria,” he asserted.
Wike’s actions before, during and after the election.
Wali further highlighted the involvement of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in the current turmoil the party is facing.
He argued that the conduct of the incumbent Federal Capital Territory Minister before and during the 2023 general elections suggested stronger alignment with the APC, and that Wike, despite being a member of the party, persistently weakened the party. He claimed that it was becoming a reality.
Wali stressed that as PDP executives, they can give advice, but the responsibility to discipline wayward party members lies with the party’s executive committee.
He expressed concern over the lack of decisive action by the PDP leadership to resolve these issues.
“If the party had followed its principles, many of the crises we face today could have been avoided,” Wali said.
Wali said that despite attempts to address the issue through multiple committees, these efforts were counterproductive as some committees were not activated and key members refused to cooperate. It was observed that it turned out to be.
He advocated holding a major party convention aimed at reorganizing the leadership and enforcing discipline, stressing that such steps could help restore order within the PDP.
However, reacting to Wali’s claims, APC Public Relations Secretary in Kano, Mr. Ahmed Aruwa, said, “APC has nothing to do with PDP.”
Arwah suggested that Wali’s accusations may be a result of his advanced age and misunderstanding of current political dynamics.
Mr. Aruwa also accused the PDP of shirking responsibility for its internal problems, claiming that “instead of focusing on rebuilding the party, they are looking for faults here and there.”
Mr Aruwa further referred to Wike’s role and defended the FCT Minister’s joining the APC-led government. He noted that Wike was invited to contribute to the development of the nation, citing his reputation as “Mr. project. “
