Former President Goodluck Jonathan has advised Rivers State Governor Siminalai Hubara to remain strong despite the political challenges he faces in the state.
Mr. Jonathan pointed out that the challenges currently facing Governor Nunohara are part of the experience that has turned him into a “general” in the political world.
The former president made the proposal amidst a political feud between Hubala and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Mr. Jonathan urged Mr. Hubala to remain strong and committed to the people of Rivers State, adding that such incidents are not uncommon in the world of politics, and that he will continue to face greater challenges during his administration. He added that there is a possibility of facing this.
Naija News reports that the former president made the suggestion on Sunday at the chieftaincy installation ceremony in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he also called on the people to continue to support Governor Hubara.
“I know you (Governor Tomihara) are going through difficult times, but I try to remain silent at times like this. I don’t like to say certain things. This is your first time in this position. You will face a lot. But remember. No one becomes a general without fighting a war, and whatever challenges you are facing now are preparing you to become a political general. If you have support from people, God will see you through to the end,” Jonathan said.
Mr. Jonathan, however, appealed to stakeholders to allow peace to reign in Rivers State as the state is at the center of events in the region and the country as a whole.
“We want a peaceful Rivers State because Rivers State is the heart of the Niger Delta. If we create problems in Rivers State, it will create a crisis in the Niger Delta and will be detrimental to our economy. We need peace and we want the governor to remain calm and focus on his work,” Jonathan added.
In response, Governor Nunohara highly valued Jonathan and promised to continue his efforts for the development of the people.
“We will continue to follow the right path and reach the promised land. Thank you for your patience and support,” he said.
Governor Nunohara acknowledged former President Jonathan’s unwavering support during difficult times, saying, “He has supported me through this difficult period of my administration.”
