This achievement also brought Drake closer to another record, leaving five albums of chart toppings behind the Beatles’ No. 19 album’s all-time record. ‘$ome $exy 4u’ marks Drake’s first full-length project since a very publicly and fierce contest with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar. That rivalry produced the hit track “Not Like Us,” and later became the center of a legal dispute between Drake and his label, Universal Music Group (UMG).
In a legal petition against UMG, Drake argued that the label failed to prevent the release of a Diss track containing harmful falsehoods about him. He further argued that UMG engaged in unethical practices, including the use of bots and other artificial methods, inflated the number of songs streaming on Spotify, thereby increasing its popularity. The lawsuit uncovers behind the scenes of the music industry and fierce competition between artists.
