Two Switzerland players, Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri are being investigated by FIFA over their goal celebrations in the team’s 2-1 World Cup win against Serbia.
They both made hand signals that appeared to imitate the double-headed eagle on the Albanian flag.
Football’s world governing body has begun disciplinary proceedings against the players over their apparent Albanian nationalist gestures.
It has also opened disciplinary proceedings against the Serbian Football Association for crowd disturbance and the display of political and offensive messages by Serbian fans. And it is reviewing statements that Serbia coach Mladen Krstajic made after the match.
FIFA outlaws all political messages or symbols in stadiums and the two players could be banned for up to two games if they are found to have breached their rules, DailyMail reports.
