Nigerian rapper and actor Fals has defamed social media personality and critic Martin Vincent Otse, known as Berry Darkman, for allegedly helping him and his father Femi Falana get Bobrisky’s money laundering charges dropped. He finally spoke about the lawsuit.
The issue began on September 24, 2024, when Berry Darkman released an audio tape in which he claimed that a human rights lawyer and his son helped get Bobrisky out of prison and have money laundering charges dropped. I want you to remember.
In response, the rapper gave Berry Darkman 24 hours on his Instagram page to delete the audio and apologize for the defamation.
However, VDM stood his ground and happily agreed to go to court, claiming he had not defamed Fals or his father.
On October 15, the Lagos High Court ordered VDM to retract its defamatory statements against the Fals and their father, but VDM refused.
On a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, Falz recalled how his conversation with Berry Darkman went after he posted a video containing defamatory claims.
Fals further explained that she had no issues with the social media personality until she trampled on her father’s name.
He questioned whether the court action was an attempt by activists to achieve “hero status.”
Falz said: “This guy was immediately defensive from the beginning. I’m like a brother, listen.
“What are you fighting about now? And he said to me without mincing words, ‘Chebi, you’re a lawyer. You’re a lawyer.’ Go to court.” ”
“Please be aware that there is a criminal aspect to defamation, and I chose not to go in that direction. He could very well have been arrested. What he posted is a ton of nonsense and completely false. Please delete it within a certain amount of time and apologize. And what did he do? Nothing.
“…I don’t know if it paints him as a hero. He didn’t apologize to me. People are trying to promote me as an oppressor.”
The rapper said he had never had any problems with activists until he mentioned Falana’s name.
“My father stuck his neck out for the oppressed and trampled on everything he stood for,” he said.
“…So if you say you want to find trouble, trouble is my job. That’s my job. If you say that’s what you’re looking for, then let’s go.”
