YouTube Music for Android and iOS previewed a “Speed Dial” section to replace “Listen Again” a little over a year ago. And now, this update is finally being seen on more devices. In the new section, the 10×2 carousel displaying 6 works per screen will be replaced with a 3×3 grid spanning 3 pages. In this new section, you’ll get a total of 27 songs, albums, artists, and playlists to enjoy your favorites again. Tapping on a track will start playing, but it won’t launch while it’s playing and will remain in your home feed. You can also press and hold to access the overflow menu. Additionally, active songs are highlighted in white online. Entries with an arrow after their name at the bottom of the page do not start playing immediately, but you can access more information about that entry.
The biggest change since the announcement was an increase from nine entries to 27. This change was made because otherwise the new Speed Dial option wouldn’t be as efficient as the (Listen Again) option that many people use in YouTube Music.
The purpose of this feature is to make it easier to listen to and enjoy artists and songs that are playing on repeat. Basically, you can instantly play any song you’re into.
Now, YouTube Music’s new Speed Dial page appears to be rolling out more widely on both Android and iOS devices. You may need to refresh the (Home) tab or force stop YouTube Music for this to appear. Meanwhile, the web browser version of the streaming service, music.youtube.com, remains unchanged and continues to use Listen again, similar to the UI on Android tablets. In my opinion, this update is great and I love how easy and convenient it is to access all the songs I’m currently into. I’m someone who literally breaks the repeat button when I like a song, so I’m very happy with this update.
