Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has ridiculed the failure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win last year’s presidential election in Rivers State.
The former Rivers State governor said this in an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Tuesday.
The PDP leader in Rivers State, Austin Opara, said the holding of local government polls in the state despite opposition shows that the people are fed up with their oppressors.
Mr Wike, in his reaction, said Mr Opara and others worked for the PDP and failed in the 2023 elections.
He said, “We couldn’t campaign and we didn’t get even 10%. That’s PDP state (Rivers state).”
Naija News reports that the former governor of Rivers State has campaigned against his political party, the PDP, in the 2023 presidential election after falling out with the leadership after failing to secure voting tickets. .
He instead supported Bola Tinubu, who carried the flag of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to victory in the exercise.
The President, who defeated Atiku Abubakar of the PDP in the presidential election, subsequently appointed him to his cabinet, even though he was still a member of the PDP.
Mr Wike defended his suspension despite calls from the PDP for his suspension.
“I said in the presidential election that I would support fairness, fairness and justice. The other thing is, I will support my party and that is why I won the gubernatorial and parliamentary elections,” he said.
“There is no room for apology as president because I don’t believe in corruption. Today, people say, ‘Punish Wike, he did anti-party.’ No, I am not doing any anti-party activities,” the minister claimed.
“I have no regrets at all.”
