Little Love Letters: Kimberly Morgan York will release her latest full-length album, “Fun,” on Friday, October 11th. That same night, she and her band will celebrate its release by opening for Terrapin Beer Company’s Stewart & Winfield. I’m not going to tell you everything about who’s in her band, but trust me, they’re all on the Athens A-Team. The album was produced by David Barb. The new album is a reasonable length of eight songs, with the title track and lead single being life-grabbing anthems that move along very well at a speedy tempo. That’s kind of the theme of the whole album, to be honest. And while some of this material is pop-heavy, Yorke’s deep country leanings are unmistakable, as evidenced by “My Mama’s Done Lost Her Mind.” The new album will be self-released by Yorke and will be available on all major streaming services. What’s in a Name?: The members of KIT are celebrating the release of their new EP SYZYGY, but the name is just as elusive as it was when Ian Hemerlein first started using it all those years ago. The band will celebrate with a release show at Flickr on October 11th. Nicolas Maris and The Borealis and Organic Programmed are also on the bill tonight. This EP, which I already covered when the band released a single, is a great collection of sweet pop tunes that seem suspended in time between the poles of classic psych-pop and synth-pop. It’s a small collection. That being said, I’m very interested in what these guys are doing, but why did they choose a debut album with such an uncool title, followed by a totally unsearchable band name? I’ll never be able to understand it. Have any questions? Ask us directly at instagram.com/kit.rocks. Find this EP on Spotify and other streaming services.
Give me this, give me this, give me that: Currently busy with new releases, skate zine/label/show promoter Hard Tack returns this week with a new five-song demo from Peter and the Skeeters. This is what made the eccentric art punk of the late 1970s and early 1980s so convincing, and the punk rock of Athens with a fairly complete working knowledge of what was needed, at least at the time. This is the first band of its kind to come to the table. Muy bien. And they did it all without copying anyone else’s sound, but instead using this music as a common language. As a result, listeners will hear the moody Rollins-era “Black Flag” in “Not My Problem,” shades of The Screamers in opener “Slumlord,” and the smell of germs in “Lick The Floor.” It will be. These are just reference points that I’ve heard myself and maybe they’ll be useful to you too. This is also the first band I’ve heard recently that may be spiritual siblings to other Athens locals Rubber Adder. It is available digitally and as a limited edition (25 copies) cassette tape. Find it soon at hardtackk.bandcamp.com.

And since I’ve already brought them…: On a 20-track crazy journey where the art terrorists of Rubber Adder are about to subject you to their new, tantalizingly titled compilation “testes vomit cuddle” Are you participating? Before we get into it, Rubber Udder is a totally unassuming guy and is well aware that a lot of this stuff is stupid. But as has been famously written many times about the Ramones, they may be stupid, but they're not stupid. So, to this end, a lot of noise punctuated by drones (“WelmfWwelmfDeShmoine”), an anxiety-inducing long track with only a modicum of relief at the end (“If My Dog Could Throw Up”), Surfer’s meat is available. – Manson freak folk (“Gun In My Rice”) and legitimate psychedelic freakout (“Chrome”). Look, this is going to take a long time to listen, and I’ve already done the preparatory work for you. Find this at rubberudder.bandcamp.com and send your blessings to instagram.com/rubber_udder.

Irie! IRIE!: It’s been a year and a few months since I heard from Master Selector Kira Cabi. This new release, Screwy Chopper Vol. 5, features cab remix tracks from Tommy Richman, Tinashe, Saweetie, and Ariana Grande. A good Kira may add a very light touch to a remix, or make it completely different from the original underlying song. The high point here is probably the remix of Saweetie’s “Nani.” Killa Cabbi also has an arm-length back catalogue, so when you go listen to this, stay a while. Visit echobassrecords.bandcamp.com.

HEAR YOUR VOICES: World Famous will play a show on Wednesday, October 16th that will have other stages in town turning blue with envy that night. The stacked bill includes Cult of Ligonier, Dana Gera, Atlanta’s Yahudas, and O Key. The show is $10 admission and people of all ages can get updates in advance by connecting to the following URLs: cultofriggonia.bandcamp.com, cloudrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/dhana-jeera, yerfdaas. bandcamp.com and okey.bandcamp.com. None of this music is particularly “easy,” so to speak, but it’s all rewarding, and it’s only a $2.50 band, so if this one fails, it’s on you.
