The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has announced that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has agreed to postpone the inspection of election materials until Thursday to give the party additional preparation time.
APC Edo State Chairman, Jarrett Tennebe, along with the party’s legal representative, Victor Ohiosuwan, told reporters that due to a mistake in the testing process, they do not have all the necessary supplies.
Tenebe said: “It is supposed to start with the inspection of the register, but we were not aware of that. INEC has already given us the register and we will compare it with the register that INEC will bring. Because there are a lot of doubts all over the place about the BVAS that was loaded from the Prime Minister’s Office to the BVAS because of the facts that I raised with you earlier, including this location and the register. .
“And the reason why registration is an issue is that, as you all know, the lawsuit between PDP and PDP that is currently pending in the Supreme Court is that PDP candidates are not registered in Edo and that INEC It has to do with the register they gave us before the opening of the election. “
He said the APC aimed to closely scrutinize the register provided, particularly highlighting the absence of some important names such as Asue Ighodaro.
“We have thoroughly reviewed and Asue Ighodalo is not included. Therefore, this is the register they are going to provide us with to ensure that we are not inspecting a fake register. That is why we want to take a critical look at it. That is the issue on the ground right now. Therefore, the meeting is postponed until tomorrow,” Teneve added.
Meanwhile, the legal team of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who attended the meeting at INEC headquarters in Benin City, also chose not to speak to the press.
In response to PDP’s allegations, the Edo State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Anubugumu Onuoha, denies claims that he obstructed access to the Bimodal Voter Verification System (BVAS) for inspection before the recent gubernatorial election. did.
In a statement, he called the allegations “baseless and misleading.”
Mr Onuoha said he had never restricted any party or representative from accessing BVAS for inspection prior to trial. He called on all stakeholders, including the PDP, to inspect the BVAS system on Wednesday.
