To continue the spooky season, Waretown’s Albert Music Hall will host the “Jersey Devil Show” on Saturday, Nov. 2. Doors open at 5 p.m. Music will be played from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $1 for children under 12.
Scheduled to perform are Gothic Americana duo Wedding Funeral, acoustic trio Please Don’t Tell, local favorites Billy T. Midnight and the Basement Musicians, and Albert Hall. This is the debut bluegrass band Lost in Brunswick. A devil will also appear and take photos.
Several songs touch on the Jersey Devil legend. According to folklore, Mother Leeds had 12 children, and after she found out she was pregnant for the 13th time, she said that this child would become a demon. On a stormy night in 1735, as her friends gathered around her, she went into labor. It is believed that the mother, Leeds, was a witch, and the child’s father was the devil himself. Born as a normal child, he transformed into a creature with hooves, a goat’s head, bat wings, and a forked tail. After killing the midwife while roaring, he climbed the chimney and circled the village to the Pines, where he was not seen again until 1890.
Dinner options include cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and several other specials. Desserts include a variety of cakes, cookies, pies, ice cream, and drinks.
The gift shop will be open for early holiday shopping. A 50-50 drawing will be held and commemorative raffle tickets will be sold in the foyer for $10.
