The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to expel former Governor Ayodele Fayose for alleged acts against the party’s interests in the state.
The recommendation was made public by the state PDP Interim Chairman, Mr Dare Adeleke, at a press conference held in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.
Mr. Adeleke disclosed that Fayose’s expulsion request was submitted to the Tom Ikimi-led Disciplinary Committee and the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Reconciliation Committee for consideration.
He stressed that the decision was due to Fayose’s anti-party activities and illegal activities, especially his public support for Governor Biodun Oyebunji of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Adeleke said Fayose’s actions risked embarrassing the PDP and misleading the public about the party’s core values.
He argued that it would be harmful to keep Fayose and his supporters in the party because their loyalties were no longer aligned with the principles of the PDP.
Mr. Adeleke further stressed that Mr. Fayose had filed four separate lawsuits against the PDP Management Committee within just two months of its establishment, demonstrating his intention to undermine the unity of the party.
He said: “We are deeply concerned to have to deal with the anti-party activities of Ayo Fayose and his associates. His public declarations and series of support for the opposition are in line with the values of our great party. It’s a direct insult to humanity and unity.
“I strongly condemn these actions and urge you to take the bold and honest step of formally leaving the camp, rather than openly aligning yourself with the opposition or guiding others to your own selfish interests.” I encourage him.”His actions are misleading the public and giving them a distorted and false image of what the PDP stands for. We are focused on strengthening Ekiti PDP and such actions will only weaken our overall efforts.
“I am happy to say that Fayose is no longer a member of the PDP, so whatever he says, he is saying it to appease the ego of his boss and paymaster, Governor Oyebunji, because if If a man can shout from the rooftop, “BAO came to my house 18 times in two years,” what is he doing there?
“Mr. Fayose is a survivalist. He is a person who wants everything for himself. A person can sponsor his child as a PDP candidate and in the middle of the game, based on material gain, If you pull your child out of the race to support the APC. Would you take someone like that seriously?
“You have to be sweet to get money from Oyebanji. He took the caretaker committee to court four times within two months of taking office just to undermine the PDP with complaints from its pay chief. .”
