Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and everyone in President Bola Tinubu’s administration conduct politics with the suffering of Nigerians in mind.
Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the PDP, said this in a press release on Saturday by his media aide, Paul Ibe.
The former No. 2 citizen was reacting to remarks made by Mr Wike earlier in the day at a luncheon commemorating the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly.
Referring to Atiku’s defeat in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, Wike said Atiku is irrelevant in politics as Nigerians have repeatedly rejected him.
Mr. Atiku, in his statement to Mr. Ibe, said he was obsessed with real issues affecting Nigerians and would not be distracted by Mr. Wike’s theatrics.
He said: “Our attention has been drawn to Mr Nyesom Wike’s recent statements which can only be described as one of his theatrical outbursts. However, Nigerians are not immune to his antics. We remain calm as we are well aware of his actions and know that this is a lingering symptom of the bitterness he harbors from his loss to Wazirin Adamawa in the party’s 2022 presidential primaries. I keep it.
“Wike’s comments are nothing more than a series of stupid acts, hollow and driven by personal grievances. If Nigerians are satisfied with the status quo under the government they serve, If he really believes it, it reveals a deeper truth: his priority is himself, not the people. This self-absorption is more about internal affairs in Rivers than about ministerial responsibilities. It’s clear from the fact that he’s absorbed in it.”
He added: “While he may be trying to divert attention with baseless rants, we remain focused on the real issues affecting Nigerians. In contrast, our focus on people’s welfare and progress remains steadfast.
“Wike appears to enjoy conjuring up his fantasies, indulging his imagination, paying to be broadcast live on TV and launching violent attacks against whoever he likes. We have no intention of descending into a relaxing ditch. Rather, we prefer to maintain our dignity and rise above while others immerse themselves in the mire.”
