Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has reacted to calls for his ouster by the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Naija News had earlier reported that the party’s Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dare Adeleke, announced the decision during a submission to the PDP Disciplinary Committee headed by Chief Tom Ikimi.
The recommendation came after the party accused Fayose of engaging in anti-party activities, particularly for publicly supporting Governor Biodun Oyebunji’s candidacy for a second term.
Despite being a member of the PDP, Fayose openly declared his support for Oyebanji, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a recent interview.
At the inauguration ceremony of the Dehead/Fagro road and electrification project in Ado-Ekiti, Fayose reiterated his support for Oyebanji’s re-election, further straining relations within the PDP.
Fayose expressed indifference to the recommendation for expulsion, saying Adeleke did not have the authority to recommend expulsion.
Fayose, through his aide Lele Olinka, dismissed the interim chairman’s actions as frivolous.
He said, “The relationship between him (Adeleke) and Fayose, who is leading politics in Ekiti, will be known soon.” He will be the one who will come to Ekiti from Ibadan to vote for PDP in 2026 and 2027.
“Does he (Adeleke) have that kind of power?” No, he doesn’t. His position as CTC chairman is being challenged in court. I know there were three or four lawsuits saying he shouldn’t be CTC chairman.
“What authority do you have to recommend that someone be expelled when your operating authority is being challenged?
“He is exactly what he is, he makes noise, we don’t care, he can go on, he should go to Abuja and suspend Fayose.
“I am aware of the various statements made by the person who claims to be the CTC chairman. In the last meeting they held, he removed Fayose from the party, so the party is free for him. He said it had become.
“If he says he doesn’t want Fayose, is it wrong for someone who says you don’t want to be at home to go to someone else’s house?”
Mr Adeleke said in his recommendation that Mr Fayose’s “public declarations and series of endorsements against the opposition are a direct affront to the values and unity of our great party and the action is taken accordingly.” .
Addressing a press conference in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Mr. Adeleke said Mr. Fayose’s actions were misleading to the public and “gave a distorted and false image of what the PDP stands for.”
He said: “The PDP has set up a disciplinary committee with Chief Tom Ikimi as the chairman. We (CTC) have met with the committee. Our position is that Ayo Fayose must be expelled from the party. It means that it must be done.”
Commenting on the former governor’s comments, Adeleke said: “My answer is very simple, Mr. Fayose is no longer a member of PDP, so everything he says is said to placate or massage the ego of his boss, Oyebanji. Oyebanji is now his boss.
“If a man (Fayose) shouts on the roof that Oyebanji has come to his house 18 times in two years, what is he (the governor) doing there? Share Ekiti money, Fayose I’m going to give Ekiti money to! What is the governor doing there?
“Fayos is a man who wants everything for himself. If Fayos is now telling the whole world that he can do this, he can do that, it is because he wants to get money from Oyebanji again, I’m sure he’ll give it to me. He needs to say something sweet. He knows he’s doing it for something.”
The PDP CTC chairman wondered on what basis anyone could express support for Mr. Oyebanji who has failed Ekiti State in areas such as infrastructure, health, security and education in the past two years.
he said: “Where is the infrastructure here in Ekiti? I have not seen much infrastructure in the state, the roads are in a state of decay and the health sector is in a terrible state.
“We have to face the reality of the past two years under the current administration of Governor Oyebunji. It is unfortunate that many areas of development and governance have been neglected during this period and there is a clear lack of progress. is.”
The PDP CTC chairman condemned Fayose’s actions and encouraged him to “take the bold and honest step of formally defecting, rather than openly collaborating with the opposition or misleading others to his own selfish interests.” said.
“We are focused on strengthening Ekiti PDP. Fayose’s actions will only weaken our collective efforts. I urge all party members to remain focused as we continue on this rebuilding journey. We urge you to maintain and avoid any form of distraction that may hinder our progress.
“Together, we can achieve a new and vibrant PDP that serves the people of Ekiti with integrity and purpose.”
