Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has said he has not yet decided whether to run for the 2027 presidential election.
However, he added that if he decides to run for president in 2027, no one can stop his ambition.
Naija News reported that he stated this in an interview with Daily Trust published on Saturday.
According to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum Chairman, he is more concerned with making the party strong and united.
He said, “Right now, I have not told anyone that I want to run for president.” Maybe that’s why people associate me with that ambition.
“But what have I done to cause problems other than operating within the Governors Forum? This is a forum of equals, like the Senate or the House of Representatives, and it does not make decisions alone. No, but don’t confuse my ambitions for 2023 with my current focus.
“My priority at the moment is to see if the PDP can produce a presidential candidate who is strong and cohesive and who can win the trust of Nigerians. It doesn’t have to be me. Anyone with the vision, energy, and vision for the country is welcome.”
He revealed that many individuals and groups continue to pressure him to run for president.
“Of course, if the time comes and I decide to run, no one will stop me. But for now, I am concentrating on my work. Not only me, but many young people and organizations I encourage a variety of individuals to run. So why focus on me? I haven’t responded to any of them when a group came to Congress asking me to run. Even, as I said, in 2023, unless one of my political leaders (former President Goodluck Jonathan) steps down, I am not arrogant. is willing to work as part of a team.
“The presidency is about consensus. No one should think they’re bigger than anyone else. If you can align our visions and lead collaboration, you’ll be president. If you start thinking that you are better than others, you are missing the point. I am not better than anyone else. A PDP governor is qualified to be president even if he is outside the party. If they don’t step up, it’s their choice. But if they decide to run with the support of people in Bauchi and across the country, no one will be afraid,” he said. .
