Waltz draws parallels with 1930s New York City Madison Square Garden rally Published at 18:36 GMT18:36 GMT
Candidates for president and vice president are dispersed across the United States today as they enter the final stages before voting day.
In Henderson, Nevada, vice presidential candidate Tim Walz spoke to supporters and mentioned Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden later today.
He appeared to be comparing Trump’s rally this afternoon to another event at the iconic venue several years ago.
“It’s very similar to the big gatherings that happened at Madison Square Garden in the mid-1930s,” Walz said. “And don’t think for a second he doesn’t know exactly what they’re doing there.”
He appears to be referring to the February 1939 German-American Bund rally where Nazi leader Fritz Julius Kuhn addressed 20,000 people in an arena. The Bund organization, which gathered support for Adolf Hitler’s regime in the United States, organized “pro-American rallies.”
Earlier this week, when Kamala Harris likened Trump to a fascist, people on X and Truth Social said her comments were a sign she was losing. He said she “became increasingly rhetorical, calling me Adolf Hitler and whatever else came into her twisted mind.”
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday accused President Trump of “reenacting” the 1939 rally in an interview with CNN, saying the rally was “approximately six and a half months before the Third Reich invaded Poland. It happened.”
The Trump campaign countered that Clinton also attended the event. “Hillary’s hypocrisy aside, what she says about half of the country is disgusting,” said Trump campaign spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt.
