Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, has regained his freedom after a controversial detention.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reported that the social media personality was arrested on Thursday night at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as he was about to board a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight bound for Amsterdam.
A video published on social media captured the moment in which Bobrisky was shamefully and forcibly dragged from the plane.
The crossdresser’s rearrest came after Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose, disclosed on his Instagram page that he had met Bobrisky on his way to London.
In an Instagram post, Isaac Fayose wrote: “Look who is on the same flight ✈️ to London as me @bobrisky222.
Shortly after this post, Bobrisky was forcibly fired. He was then taken to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja for questioning on suspicion of bribing EFCC officials to get previous money laundering charges dropped.
The allegations stemmed from an audio memo shared by social media commentator Martins Otse, also known as Very Dark Man, in which Bobrisky offered EFCC officials NOK 15 million to stop the charges. He is said to have claimed that he paid for it.
But late Friday night, Bobrisky was reportedly released on bail after completing the necessary formalities.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the announcement but declined to provide further details.
However, sources revealed that during interrogation, Mr. Bobrisky denied all allegations of bribery, disputed the authenticity of the audio notes, and demanded that the individuals responsible for posting them provide evidence.
“He denied everything about giving money to officials as bribes to drop money laundering charges against him. He denied that in a statement. He said no one asked him for money at the EFCC and he did not give anything to anyone,” the source said.
