Former Chairman of the Ebonyi State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Silas Onu, on Monday said there was no parliamentary session in the state last Saturday.
Naija News had earlier reported that the PDP elected Peter Nwere as its new chairman at the state assembly held at the weekend in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The meeting was overseen by a seven-member committee of the party’s national secretariat, along with representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and various security agencies.
Mr. Onu, however, urged the public to reject claims that a meeting took place, insisting that the event was just a gathering of acquaintances.
Addressing reporters in Abakaliki, Onu accused the organizers of the purported PDP state convention of trying to violate a valid court order prohibiting them from engaging in such activities.
He said: “There are no factions in the PDP. There was just an attempt to take over the political party by some greedy person who thinks it is his own because he mistakenly represented NWC as Ebonyi. Because he was sent to the National Working Committee of
“When there’s a court order to do nothing, Congress doesn’t meet. Not one, not two. There are many cases in court, and the court won’t do anything until I finish hearing those cases. I told her not to do it.
“Anyone who claims he or she has convened Congress is in direct contempt of a valid court order and whatever he or she is trying to do is simply wasting time.
“There were no meetings held in Ebonyi, it was just a gathering of friends. We heard rumors that he was given money for this and destabilized the PDP in Ebonyi. How true is that? I don’t know, but it seems like he wants to withdraw the money he was given.
“This person, who has been suspended, is supposed to be a national officer of the party. What he did was meant to raise dust, but it was a wasted effort and nothing It won’t be a solution.”
