The Lagos State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the governorship is not a gift handed to the Bola Tinubu family.
Naija News reported that the reaction follows the recent group campaign and endorsement of President Tinubu’s son Seyi Tinubu to replace Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the next governor of Lagos State.
However, the PDP said Lagosians would resist any attempt to install the president’s son in the next highest political position in the state in 2027.
In a statement issued that week, state PDP spokesperson Hakeem Ahmaud said “Lagos will not serve him.”
Ahmaud questioned the suitability of the governorship as an inherited position, suggesting that it would be inappropriate for a son to succeed his father in such a position.
He stressed that the Tinubu faction would face serious opposition if it adopted a strategy similar to the one used in Ondo and Edo states in the past.
“Government is not a gift,” he said.
Power is not a birthright in Tinubu’s family – Deji Adeyanju
Speaking on political developments in the state, human rights activist Deji Adeyanju characterized Seyi Tinubu’s support as ridiculous.
Adeyanju argues that this shows how the people of Lagos State are being ignored.
He said that although Nigeria, and Lagos State in particular, is a democratic society filled with qualified and capable individuals, it does not operate under a monarchy where leadership is passed from father to son. I wondered.
He said such events result from the absence of true elections, stressing that what is often presented as an election is simply a process of “choice”.
While acknowledging that every individual has the right to run for office, Adeyanju urged political leaders in Lagos State to take action.
“This is a laughable endorsement because they underestimate the people of Lagos. If they valued them, such calls would not happen.
“Is Lagos a monarchy where the Tinubu family is supreme? Is that power their birthright?
“Are there things that people don’t know that they should know? Because they don’t understand it and they can’t explain it.
“It makes no sense that they are underestimating the people of Lagos because there are no elections there. It is just a choice. And powerful political officials are never held accountable by the people. Things go this way because no questions are asked.
“Nigeria practices a federal system, not a monarchy where political power is passed from father to son.
“Therefore, it is incumbent upon political actors in Lagos State to stand up and do what is right for the state,” the legal expert said in a chat with DAILY POST.
Governor Seyi Tinubu
The call for Seyi Tinubu to be the next governor of Lagos in 2027 was initiated by the Confederation of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL).
Naija News understands that the group formally endorsed the president’s son for the post of Lagos State governor in a recent statement issued in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The federation stressed that Mr. Seyi Tinubu has consistently shown selflessness through his various philanthropic activities.
They highlighted Mr. Seyi’s presence and assistance during the floods in Borno State, and Mr. Seyi and his team expressed sympathy and support to the victims whose properties, homes and livelihoods were destroyed by the disaster.
“During the period of the tragic event, he gave many gifts, food, household items, medicine and money to the victims,” the coalition said.
The Lagos Chapter of Middle Belt Youth also expressed its support at a press conference featuring the Middle Belt Forum’s National Public Relations Deputy Director, Dr. Stanley Augustine Kabwam, and the group’s National Youth Leader, Captain Brent Cain. did.
They characterized Seyi as the leader Lagos needs and called for him to play a more prominent role in the 2027 elections.
Similarly, the socio-political group known as Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST) has officially endorsed Seyi Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.
The organization praised him as a visionary leader, highlighting his unique combination of intelligence, empathy and strategic acumen.
They maintained that Seyi Tinubu is the ideal candidate to drive Lagos State towards a future marked by prosperity and innovation.
In a statement issued by its president, Comr. Adejorin Tai Manuel said Seyi Tinubu’s philanthropy, leadership skills and dedication to social progress demonstrate his readiness to take on the role of governor. He pointed out that there was.
Ruling says Lagos is no boy’s business – Igbokwe
Meanwhile, Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was among the first prominent politicians to condemn Seyi Tinubu’s support as the next governor of Lagos.
Igbokwe said the role of governor of Lagos State was not a boy’s job and accused the endorsement of being a strategy to undermine President Tinubu.
“Who are the faceless people who are pushing Seyi Tinubu to be governor of Lagos? This is an unnecessary distraction. Their goal is to bring down PBAT. It is the boys’ job to govern Lagos. Not,” Igbokwe recently wrote on his Facebook page.
Similarly, a group of youths under the auspices of the Lagos Indigenous Youth Federation also rejected the recognition, saying there was no space in the Alausa Government House for non-indigenes to occupy.
“Our attention has been drawn to the recent endorsement of Mr. Seyi Tinubu as the Lagos governorship candidate by the Coalition of Nigeria Youth Leaders, a group known as CONYL, which has been drawn to all It is said to be the umbrella organization for youth groups in Nigeria.
“The said coalition is based in Owerri, Imo State and has publicly issued a statement of support.
“While we know that Mr. Seyi Tinubu has democratic rights as a Nigerian, we condemn this unfortunate support, calling it anti-democratic and ensuring that the indigenes of Lagos State have self-governance in 2027.” “This is a deliberate move by faceless individuals to deny the right to
“It is no longer news that since 1999, no true-blooded indigene of Lagos State (except one) has assumed the leadership position of the state. Alienation underlines the essence of democracy; It completely denies the indigenes of Lagos State the right to govern themselves.
“We know for a fact that there will soon be a vacancy in Osun State where Mr. Seyi Tinubu can best exercise his democratic rights without hindrance.
“And if the people of Owerri, Imo, are also interested in benefiting from the recent experience gained by Mr. Seyi Tinubu, they can nominate him to replace Governor Uzodinma.
“For us, there will be no non-indigene vacancies in Lagos State in 2027. Marginalization has gone too far and marginalization is leading to underdevelopment of the state,” the group said.
