Kora Ologunttyyan, former National Democratic Party (PDP), warned that the party may face a new crisis in the nearest future surrounding the position of national chairmanship.
According to Ologbondiyan, PDPs will need to zone their national chair position into the Northern Central Region if they want to avoid the impending crisis ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking in an interview on Channel TV on Thursday, he recalled the crisis that struck the party over the results of the presidential primary in the 2023 election, when Atiq Abubakar was declared the winner.
This development allowed the chiefs of some of the parties led by Nyesom Wike to face the PDP in the 2023 election.
Ologbondiyan warned that if the situation surrounding the PDP’s national chair position is not carefully controlled, the party will take place due to another crisis.
Naija News reports that observations are coming at a time when the PDP is split into positions of National Secretary General as Ude-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu on Sunday.
In Ologbondiyan’s words, “We saw it coming, and we cannot argue that no one in the People’s Democrats interested in the life of the party knows that this is going to happen.
“That being said, I believe I still claim to be speaking for the majority of North Central – even if it would be a day, North Central is essentially insufficient. The office of the National Speaker must be permitted to take over. The vacant ruler Iyorchia Ayu was not substantive as it was envisaged that Ambassador Ilyasu Damagum had taken office in his ability to act.
“So, whether or not the current executive life will end in December or before that, the North Central should be given an opportunity. Otherwise, the challenges that led to the G5 are still there. It’s alive. It may not work the same way, but it’s recorded that the party at that time was unfair to the people of the North and Central.”
