The People’s Democratic Secretary (PDP) who fought, Sen. Samuel Anyangwu, provided insight into why certain party leaders are determined to take him in office.
In an interview with Vanguard, Anyanwu saw pressure on his commitment to a legitimate process, respect for the rule of law, and his close ties with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territories (FCT) of Nyesom Wike.
Anyanwu argued that some Southeast PDP leaders viewed him as an obstacle to his political ambitions, particularly in their quest to control party structure.
He states: “I was effectively appointed and elected as the Secretary of State of this great party at the National Congress. Our constitution, if necessary, should be replaced by those occupying the National Labor Commission. It clearly explains whether it is possible.
“I took a break from the contest for the governor of my state and the Deputy Secretary of State acted while I was away. Our constitution would give my agent the power to delegate functions. Masu.
“While I’m running a campaign, some people have to forge documents by changing the parties’ guidelines illegally and then resign with clauses that are not in the original document. It was strange that he did. The police are investigating it, so I don’t say much about it.”
He further said that his longtime friendship with Wike also targeted him, dating back to their time as PDP’s local government chair.
“Everyone knows my relationship with (Chief Naisom) Wyke. We were the chairman of the local government and a member of the PDP. I cannot deny him,” Anyanwu added. .
Anyanwu has accused the PDP Governor and members of the Council of Trustees (BOT) of working together to weaken the party on selfish reasons.
He explained that Ude Okoy, as state secretary on Sunday, was nothing more than a “representative war.”
Anyanwu argued that those seeking his removal should wait until his tenure expires in December 2025 and compete for his position at the next PDP national convention.
The PDP Governor’s Forum is based on the decision of the Enugu Court of Appeals, which declared support for Udeokoi at its monthly meeting in Asaba, Delta state, and which recognized him as a legitimate resident of the position.
Shortly afterwards, Bott supported Ude Okoye and adopted the findings of a committee led by Kabir Tanim Turaki (SAN).
The crisis within the PDP deepened following the party’s 2023 presidential primary election, when former vice president Atiq Abubakar defeated Naisom Waik.
Feeling betrayed, Wike and the other four governors distanced themselves from Atiku’s campaign, leading to a disparity in the party’s deep faction.
Compounding the issue even further, Wike has also been caught up in a political battle with successor Rivers State Gognelory Siminalaye Fubara, causing additional tensions within the PDP rank.
