Coldplay released their 10th studio album, Moon Music, earlier this weekend.
The long-awaited album comes after the band previously announced that their final record would likely be released in 2025. Speaking to BBC Radio 2’s Joe Whyley in 2021, Chris Martin said: “Our last decent record will be released after 2025.” I think it will only be a tour. Maybe we’ll collaborate on something, but that’s pretty much the end of Coldplay’s catalog. He spoke with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe earlier this week and commented on the importance of finishing with 12 albums: Setting that limit is very important. The Beatles only have 12 and a half albums. Bob Marley is pretty much the same, so they’re all our heroes. That restriction also means that quality control is so strict right now that it’s almost impossible to make songs, which is great. So we’re trying to improve where we might be coasting. ”
The album has received many positive reviews since its release, including one from Rolling Stone magazine, which called it “every bit as galactic and ambitious as you’d expect,” and described it as “musically spacious and… Emotionally, it is said to be infinite. NME also gave the album a four-star review, calling it “the power of music to overcome the storms of life.” Listen to the new album below.
