The Abington School District’s music program was featured in an article titled “The Power of Problem Solving” in Yamaha Music USA.
This story focuses on Kevin Longwill, a music industry teacher who was selected for Yamaha’s “40 Under 40” music education advocacy program in February.
excerpt:
Longwill, who teaches music classes at Abington middle and high schools, originally taught students digital recording as a way to stay engaged with music while school went virtual in 2020. Since then, digital music instruction has grown into a program called Modern Music. Manufacturer also known as M3. This co-curricular music program for middle and high school students has four divisions: Management, Media, Marketing, and Mentorship. Through the M3, students develop a variety of skills in performance, songwriting, technical production, show development, and other aspects of the professional music industry.
The story also talks about the Modern Music Invitational, which is in its third year. Approximately 350 students from eight schools participated in April. So far, 15 schools and more than 500 students have registered for the 2025 edition, according to Yamaha.
“At the end of every show, I sit there in amazement at what the kids did,” Longwill said. “The invitational games are 1000 percent the highlight of my career so far. Just seeing so many kids playing for each other and together… it’s as real as they can get what they want to do. .”

The M3 program was also featured on 6ABC in March. In July, second-year student Lukas Tokarczyk won a contest for an essay about longwills.
