Laolu Akande, former spokesperson for immediate past Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has insisted that there is no basis for anyone to conclude that Osinbajo has retired from politics or resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). .
Naija News reported that Akande expressed this view while interacting with journalists in Lagos on Sunday.
Notably, Mr. Osinbajo has not been prominently involved in various political activities since his resignation in 2023, leading to speculation regarding his possible resignation from the APC and politics in general.
Recall that the former vice president participated in the 2022 APC primaries but failed to win the party’s nomination and ultimately lost to President Bola Tinubu.
He served as Attorney General and Attorney General of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 during the tenure of Governor Tinubu.
Meanwhile, some political analysts suggest that Osinbajo’s decline in involvement in political affairs may be a result of his defeat in the APC primaries, while others suggest that Osinbajo’s recent role as a global advisor Some argue that people are spending less time on politics. When asked about the former principal’s political stance, Akande declined to express his personal opinion on Osinbajo’s position.
He stressed that Mr. Osinbajo has not communicated any intention to leave politics and, to the best of his knowledge, remains a member of the APC.
Mr. Akande further indicated that he would attend any APC event that required Mr. Osinbajo’s presence.
“I don’t want to involve that man (Osinbajo) in my own commentary, but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in APC. He is still a member of APC.
“If he receives an invitation to the caucus, he will participate there. I don’t think he has left the party,” Akande said.
