A coalition of opposition parliamentarians has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and factions loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike are seeking to obtain a court order to halt the monthly allocation to local governments in Rivers State. has expressed concern over the allegations.
Union Spokesperson, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, representing Ideato South/North Federal Constituency in Imo State, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
It claimed that reliable information had surfaced indicating that the group collaborated with anti-democratic elements and filed a lawsuit in the Federal High Court.
According to Ugotinyere, the aim is to prevent the distribution of funds earmarked for local governments in Rivers State.
In a statement, Mr. Ugochinyere said, “As I speak, APC and Prowiku Group are filing a suit at the Federal High Court to assist in wresting the statutory sovereignty allocation for the entire Rivers State LGA. ” he said. A Nigerian court has declared the election of LGA president invalid. But they still want to end constitutionally mandated allocations of revenue to government departments.
“This is the second such case raising constitutional violations by the Wike Group. They have a pending suit seeking seizure of the entire Rivers Allocation/LGA funds they have filed and are currently in Wike v. The APC faction is being used to file separate lawsuits seeking suspension of the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee, the Accountant General of the Federation, the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee, the Minister of Finance, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Rivers State Attorney General and Rivers State. Independent Electoral Commission.”
Ugotinyere explained that the group’s action was in response to their dissatisfaction with the results of the recent Rivers State Local Government Elections, which were held pursuant to a Supreme Court ruling.
The group claimed to have the support of President Bola Tinubu and accused them of trying to overturn the election results at all costs.
Opposition MPs also referred to reports suggesting that pro-Wike supporters had boasted of assigning cases to judges known for quickly passing judgments in their favor.
Ugotinyere warned that the coalition will continue to closely monitor the situation and warn the public if necessary.
He stressed that local government allocations are constitutionally protected and cannot be withheld, especially when there are legally elected leaders.
Mr. Ugochinyere urged Wike factions to accept the election results and abandon their alleged efforts to destabilize the state and ensure that President Tinubu does not intervene to undermine democracy in Rivers State. I asked for it.
“The people of Rivers State elect their Speaker of Parliament and City Councilors in line with the recent Supreme Court judgment to democratize all local government bodies in Nigeria, and any attempt to truncate democracy in Rivers State The attempt will be resisted by the population.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot stand by and watch with folded arms the plots of the Wike Group to reverse democracy in Rivers State and undermine the peace and stability of the country. I hope it doesn’t fall into the hands of people who want to give orders in seconds.
“We are watching closely. The judiciary should stop accepting frivolous demands from the Wike group in connection with the LG poll in Rivers to protect the image of the judiciary and their Despair is tarnishing the image of the judiciary,” Ugotinyere said.
