The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled the primary election for the Nasarawa State parliamentary seat on October 14, 2024.
The party made the announcement weeks before the state’s Nov. 2 local elections.
Naija News understands that the APC primaries for chairmanship candidates across the 13 local government areas in the state will then be held on October 16.
The APC state chairman, Mr. Aliyu Bello, on Monday announced the schedule of party primaries at a stakeholder meeting held in Lafia.
The meeting was held to outline the procedure for selecting candidates from both parties for chairperson and councilor.
Bello also said the party has not yet decided whether the primaries will be held by consensus, direct or indirect.
He further revealed that the sale of Expressions of Interest for those seeking the chairmanship and councilor positions will begin on October 7th and end on October 10th. The candidate selection process is scheduled to take place from October 10th to 12th.
“The dates for the elections have just been announced by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission in accordance with the State Local Government Act (Amendment) 2018,” Bello said.
“As you all know, our party will fully participate in the elections with enthusiasm, spirit and unwavering determination to win.”
Mr. Bello called on APC stakeholders to approach the upcoming elections with a sense of urgency to achieve success for the party.
During the meeting, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule reiterated his determination to retain the APC governorship until 2027, at the end of his second term.
Sule also thanked former governors, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Umar Al Makra, for their continued participation and support in party meetings despite tough commitments.
