The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has suspended several party officials including the Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and the 2019 governorship election candidate. State, David Ryan.
Naija News reports that among those suspended are two serving members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-ruled Bayelsa state administration, who are also members of the APC.
The decision to suspend these persons was reportedly taken on accusations that they were involved in activities against the party and dividing the party at the state level.
The APC Leader of Ekeremor Local Government Area, Mr Mitin Enyekenemi, confirmed the suspension of Senator Lokpobiri and the Commissioner for Power, Mr Engr. Karin Kumoko spoke to reporters on Friday.
Channels Television quoted Mr Enyekenemi as explaining that the decision was taken in accordance with the recommendations of the Internal Disciplinary Committee established under Article 21(3)(1) of the APC Constitution.
In another development, APC officials in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area have suspended the 2019 APC governorship candidate, Mr. David Ryan, and the Land Surveyor-General, Mr. Barr. Perez Biewali and six others were charged with involvement in anti-party activities and serious illegal activities.
The suspended members are accused of damaging the interests of the party, particularly during the 2020 Bayelsa state by-election. APC leadership said an investigation is ongoing and further information regarding other members involved in anti-party activities will be disclosed once the investigation is complete.
