The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate and municipal councilor candidate were declared winners of the local government elections held in Benue State on Saturday.
Naija News reports that Benue State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman Richard Tombowa announced the election results on Sunday at the commission’s headquarters along Naka Road.
Tombowa said the APC won all the 23 chairpersonships and 276 councilorships contested in the state.
The SIEC chairman listed the parties participating in Saturday’s elections: All Progressives Congress, People’s Democratic Party, Labor Party, Social Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance.
He added that five of the eight political parties that submitted candidate lists participated in Saturday’s election.
“Yesterday’s elections across the state went off without a hitch. It was free and fair, and returning officers submitted all results from the field,” he said.
“According to the results, the All Progressives Congress won all 23 chairperson positions and 276 councilor positions.”
Following the announcement of the results, the Inter-Party Advisory Committee and Labor Party state chairman, Ibrahim Idoko, praised the committee’s efforts to ensure a seamless election.
Idoko also commended Governor Hyacinth Aria for providing a level playing field to all political parties in the elections, saying the party would review the election results and make its recommendations public.
