Prophet Chukhuemeka Ohanemia, widely known as Odumee, a popular Anambra-based clergyman, announced her intention to run for Nigeria’s president in 2027, calling for a transition to younger, digitally oriented leadership rather than what is called “old cargo.”
Naija News reports that the controversial pastor made a declaration during his sermon on Sunday.
However, he did not reveal the political party he plans to compete with.
Talking to his congregation, Odumee criticized Nigerian past and present leaders, saying their age and lack of vision had hindered the country's progress.
“Both past and present leaders have been unable to advance Nigeria due to their age and lack of vision, this country needs a vibrant, resilient, and positive leader like me.
The clergy emphasized the need for youthful leadership and expressed confidence in their ability to transform the country.
He said: “We need a young leader in this country and I think I’m coming out. We need a young leader as a president, a digital leader, not an old cargo. Are you sure you’ll hear me? I think I’ll come out, I’m coming out for the president.”
He continued to ask the congregations if they were ready for the presidency, and committed to implementing modern infrastructure and digital development.
“Are you ready for me? Odumeje for the President? Are you ready for me? Because I know what you need. I know what you want. I want to build a major road called the Citadel for you. I want to give you modern life, a digital life,” he said.
Odumeje’s declaration sparked excitement among his followers, many of whom have expressed support for his bid.
However, on social media, the announcement sparked widespread debate, with Nigerians questioning his political experiences and others praise his audacity by challenging the status quo.
