Defense Minister Mohammed Badal Abubakar has said plans are underway to launch Operation Fansan Yamma, a joint theater command established to address the deteriorating security situation in the northwest.
He stated this on Thursday night when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Uba Sani at the Governor General’s House, Sir Kassim Ibrahim in Kaduna as part of his official visit to the North West Zone.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Badal said the president had tasked him with finding a lasting solution to the problem of insecurity.
He disclosed that the government is cooperating with neighboring countries, especially the Republic of Niger, to combat terrorism and arms trafficking.
“The President has tasked us with being innovative and finding lasting solutions to this security problem, and we are working hard to ensure that success.
“We are working closely with the military, security agencies and neighboring countries to tackle terrorism, banditry and arms trafficking.The Minister of State for Defense recently visited Sokoto to gather recommendations and the Chief of Defense Staff “We have met with the Nigerian government to discuss collaborative efforts,” he said.
Regarding the security situation in Sokoto and around the border with Niger Republic, he said: We are working hard to address that. Cooperation with Niger will help combat the movement of terrorists, arms and ammunition.
“The President is committed to ending insecurity in Nigeria. We are working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability. I want to reassure Nigerians that we will continue to meet these challenges. I promise you that you will work hard and by the grace of God, you will succeed.”
