Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State have openly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to appoint Bianca Ojukwu as the next minister, calling it an anti-party move.
The announcement has caused considerable unrest within the party, with local leaders questioning the lack of consultation before the appointment.
At an emergency meeting held in Awka on Thursday, APC officials expressed their displeasure, saying the president’s decision was a violation of loyalty to the party that could undermine the morale of its members.
APC South East Regional Secretary and member of the APC Elders Forum in Anambra, Senior Chief Bunty Onuigbo, expressed grave concerns about the impact such appointments would have on the unity of the party.
“This is nothing but an anti-party act and is harmful. By empowering members of other political parties at the expense of the APC in Anambra State, the President is not endorsing party loyalty.” Mr. Onuigbo emphasized.
He also warned of the possibility of mass defections from the APC to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as a result of the President’s actions, saying, “The President wants a mass defection of APC members in Anambra to the All Progressives Party. Mr. Onuibo further criticized APGA’s dominance in local empowerment plans and programs, accusing it of monopolizing benefits and sidelining APC members.
“This is a group that despises the APC and wants nothing to do with us. The President is encouraging them by making such appointments,” he added.
The APC leaders have resolved to formally register their grievances by drafting a complaint to the state chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, who will discuss the matter with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC and the national Both are expected to escalate to the Executive Committee (NEC). .
