Peter Obi, the Labor Party’s (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, has said that the continuing power outage in many parts of the country, particularly in the northern and eastern states, as well as in the south-south states, is a cause for serious concern. Ta. .
In a series of tweets under his handle “X” on Sunday, he said he was heartbroken to see affected states, mainly in the north, facing total power outages.
The power outage, which has lasted for more than four days, was initially caused by vandalism of the Shiroro Mando transmission line, which supplied large amounts of electricity to northern states, Daily Trust reported.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the situation is likely to continue as safety challenges are hampering repairs to critical transmission lines.
To reduce the impact, TCN announced that it had diverted power through a 330 kilovolt (kV) double-circuit transmission line between Ugwazi and Apil.
However, a tripping accident occurred on this alternate line, making the situation even worse.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Obi said the negative impact continuous power outages would have on businesses is unimaginable.
“This power crisis, combined with the current high prices of petroleum products and a difficult operating environment, remains a deadly factor leading to widespread business failures and increased poverty in the country.”
“I have consistently maintained that solving Nigeria’s power and energy crisis is not rocket science. I have proven that there is.
“For example, our African neighbor Egypt has actively invested in its power sector, resulting in the establishment of a sustainable power infrastructure with many power plants.
“Today, Egypt has revolutionized domestic power and energy production, providing sustainable electricity to millions of small and medium-sized enterprises, which account for more than 90% of the companies operating in the country. It contributes to over 80% of GDP,” he said.
He called on governments to step up efforts and provide immediate and long-term solutions to this seemingly eternal challenge.
